If there’s one thing I wish I had learned more about earlier as a blogger, it would be paying more attention to SEO. I let a lot of time (and blog posts!) go by without attention to it. In 2019 I finally began to understand the importance of SEO as a blogger, so I sought out to learn more about it, and I also connected with the most amazing, knowledgeable SEO expert and consultant, Clem Coleman of ClemSEO. I asked Clem to share some of her top SEO tips for bloggers, because I knew many of you could likely benefit from this info as well. Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to check out this post on how to get more traffic to your wellness blog! I’ve been working with Elizabeth for a while now and we’ve seen some great progress as we’ve strategically worked on her content and optimization.

SEO encompasses A LOT of various aspects, and I would like to share 3 Essential SEO Tips with you to get started on your quest to increase your pageviews with Google, so keep reading along!

 

1. Does Google Notice your Website?

One of the most important things you can do for your blog is to create a dynamic XML Sitemap and submit it in Google Search Console. If you haven’t done this yet, Google may only be crawling a few out of all the pages you have published so far. Having a submitted dynamic sitemap will also help ensure that Google crawls your website on a regular basis and increase your organic impressions as a result.

 

2. Use an Editorial Calendar

Google is now looking for blogging CONSISTENCY. There isn’t a specific publication frequency you need to follow. What search engines want is that you decide on a frequency and stick to it. Does your schedule allow you to publish content twice per week? Twice per month? 3 times per week? Stick to the frequency you decide on now.

One tool that will help you do so is an editorial calendar; once you’ve decided on the best days to publish, go ahead and add those dates to your calendar and start assigning topics to these dates.

Start with collaborations and series you have planned, and add seasonal content around these posts. Your calendar should fill up for the next 2 to 3 months in no time!

 

3. What about your Old Content?

Do you have blog posts which you spent hours creating and yet had very little return? Part of your content strategy should include one to two blog posts each month which you update and publish to a more recent date. Think about it: in 2016, you published a post on the “top 5 meditation  apps”, and it ranks on Google’s first page, right in between 2 posts that were both published in 2020. Google users are far more likely to click on the more recent posts.

As you update your old posts, choose posts that are older than 2 years old. You’ll want to update more than just the publication date: be sure to check the affiliate links, or complement the content you already published.
